Energy and Environment Considerations

City living does have an environmental impact, but higher density can also have benefits.  With the accessibility of mass transit and reduced travel times, carbon emissions are less .  We also know well that our individual choices do make a difference.  For more about living green in Ottawa, check out: environment and energy ottawa

  • To find out about home energy audits or available grants and rebates for energy efficient upgrades, check out Ottawa’s Envirocentre.
  • Ecology Ottawa, volunteer organization working to shape Ottawa’s environment and create sustainable communities by engaging citizens in issues such as public transit, pollution, green space, global warming, renewable energy, waste disposal and recycling.  Check out their event calendar, or sign up for regular updates.
  • The City of Ottawa is also trying hard to go green too.  Their website provides a comprehensive list of sustainability initiatives.
  • For information about green building, visit the Green Building Council of Canada site and click to the Ottawa Chapter.  Also, don’t forget the Home Renovation Tax Credit, which provides a 15% income tax deduction on eligible home improvements done prior to February 1, 2010.
