Centrally located between the Rideau River, Rideau Canal and the Queensway, Sandy Hill is home to many of the city’s grandest old homes and several embassies. Large, well maintained homes from the early part of the century are situated close to tree-lined quiet streets, with sidewalks running throughout. These private homes, often covered elegantly in vine, are the perfect backdrop for the University of Ottawa’s downtown campus. Along with many interesting duplex and triplex buildings, a good proportion of low and high- rise apartment buildings also add diversity to the neighbourhood. Lastly, the presence of many young students add a certain energy to the surrounding area.
