Vanier is among the most diverse neighbourhoods in Ottawa. Located to the east of Rideau River, Vanier borders the popular community of New Edinburgh to the North and is a close commute to downtown. Due to its history, Vanier boasts a variety of housing types all of which add it’s distinct character. These include small war-time houses, contemporary townhomes, 1950′s and 60′s bungalows, condominium developments, and single detached homes nestled close together. In addition, Vanier’s maze-like streets keep traffic local, mature trees provide shade, and hills add relief. Although many areas integrate mixed use zoning, with small shops and businesses intermingled throughout, quiet residential pockets with well kept lawns do remain. The community is also well served by several parks, playgrounds, community centres and facilities.
